Nylstar introduces Meryl Skinlife Force antiviral fabric

What's New? | September 28, 2020 | By:

Nylstar, a Spanish producer of premium polyamide 6.6 yarns and fabrics, has introduced Meryl Skinlife Force, an odorless. antimicrobial, antibacterial and antiviral fabric with silver ion technology. According to the company, the fabrics can be used for the development of masks, gowns and other medical products that can be reused more than100 times after being washed at a temperature of 60ºC, which, the company says, guarantees total elimination of viruses, while maintaining their permanent viroblock effect.

As facemasks have become a part of our everyday lives with COVID-19, the company notes that most facemasks “are made with the fabrics that are not inhibiting the growth of bacteria and viruses inside the fabric and these are spread to the air and our environment through the microfiber release.” Nylstar’s new fabric combines silver-ion technology with microfiber continuous filament with high tenacity that doesn’t shed microfibers.

The company developed the fibers using the silver-ion active principle from the Swiss innovator HeiQ. “This technological innovation also allows an even longer durability of the garments, which is in line with Nylstar’s continuous efforts to help the fabric and clothing industry move forward with a sustainable and full circular economy,” the company reports.

The new fabric is certified by OEKOTEX Standard 100 and has been registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA 85249-1).
