Fil Doux offers new degradable vinyl alternative

EcoNote | November 25, 2019 | By:

Otratex, the next generation of the VinylLife collection from Fil Doux Textiles introduced in 2016, has been reengineered, the company reports. The degradable vinyl alternative is engineered phthalate-free and incorporates enzymes that react with microorganisms found in landfills, acting as the catalyst for its eventual decomposition.

The goal for Otratex is to create a closed loop system that fosters a carbon-neutral product. Because many landfills in the U.S. are harvesting and repurposing biogas into energy, Otratex may be an example of a cradle-to-cradle product that is raising awareness and raising the bar in the industry, the company says.

In the spirit of environmental sustainability, Fil Doux partnered with nonprofit One Tree Planted with a pledge to donate 1,000 trees to Brazilian rainforests for every 1,000 yards of Otratex purchased.

Fil Doux Textiles originated in Chile and specializes in woven fabrics, sheers, vinyl, leather and digital textile printing.
