Bridging the evolving leaps and bounds in technology with garment design, NEWFACET offers an innovative initiative imagining a conceptual clothing campaign. The designer makes use of an artificial intelligence (AI) program to explore ways of optimizing workflow and creative processes in visualizing unique concepts and cuts. The result is a series of highly realistic shots that depict AI-created models in (also AI-created) coats, jackets and ponchos that aren’t derivative of any existing brands. While the images appear to have come from a fashion magazine, none of the clothing or the models actually exist.

3D design tools, as well as artificial intelligence, are becoming increasingly important in the industry. These tools are being adapted in a variety of ways, including streamlining the pattern-making process and creating virtual prototypes for designers. The project NEWFACET looks to Stable Diffusion in particular, an open-source text-to-image application powered by artificial intelligence, which creates images through descriptive prompts, streamlining the conceptualization process and enhancing possibilities to experiment.
