Italian company Lapitech has created a cooking system that could be completely concealed under a modern sintered stone kitchen counter. Activated by a high-tech cooking mat, the Lapitec Chef features an electrothermal component developed in collaboration with the University of Padua.

To operate the induction cooking system, the Lapitec Chef silicone mat is placed on the worktop, which activates the touch controls and switches on the system. The mat is the key; without it the induction unit, the controls are inactive and the worktop simply a kitchen counter, distinguished only by small engravings that align with the mat’s controls.

The cooktop allows for easy cleaning and storage so the counter can be used for preparing food, plating dishes and hosting social occasions. The Lapitec counter is a 100 percent sintered stone that’s non-porous, non-absorbent and resistant to chemicals. The product is compatible with all induction cookware and is dishwasher safe. For additional safety, it can be configured to work in bridge and child lock mode.
