With the goal of creating safer and more ecological products for the textile industry, specialty chemical manufacturer Archroma has launched a water-based ultra-low VOC polyurethane polymer coating technology, a recent release announced. The company says it has developed Lurapret N5396 & N5392 liq to provide textile manufacturers with an additional water-based option that delivers high performance to coated fabrics, such as indoor and outdoor textiles, nonwovens and papers.

The product can be applied by impregnation, coating (paste or foam) and spray and is compliant with the ZDHC Foundation and bluesign®requirements. The company says Lurapret N5396 & N5392 liq can be used with Archroma’s Nuva N2155 & N4547 soil protection and release finishes to create water-repellent and waterproof surfaces on textiles.

The new products will be the core of Archroma’s Safe Seats system. The system combines LurapretN5392 & N5396 liq with Archroma’s halogen-free (below limits of detection) Pekoflam STC p flame retardant to provide a coating system for synthetic leather upholstery, the company says.
