Applications open for 2019 Student Design Competition

Industry News, News | December 10, 2018 | By:

The Advanced Textile Products Student Design Challenge encourages college and university students of design, textiles engineering and allied curricula to solve safety and protection problems using technical textiles and narrow fabrics in functional designs. The Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) offers this annual challenge to honor and recognize the innovations of students who work in textiles.

Students participating in the competition will create an original design and prototype for a safety product that will protect bodies or property from hazardous conditions. Conditions include, but are not limited to, extreme hot or cold temperature; impact; chemical or biological exposure; poor visibility; and fall protection. The prototypes will be targeted for the aerospace, medical, military, safety/protective or other wearable and non-wearable textile technology applications.

Projects must incorporate a textile component as a major part of the product. Projects that have a primary purpose of general wearing comfort or protection from environmental conditions will not be accepted. Entrants must be enrolled in post-secondary textiles, apparel, engineering or design programs in colleges or universities. Team entries are permitted. Mentoring by IFAI member companies may be available upon request.

The deadline for entries is May 17, 2019. Visit the student design competition for more information.
