Origami kayak for two launched

Oru Kayak’s latest folding watercraft is a tandem—the first of its kind, says the company. The largest of Oru’s origami-inspired models, the Haven goes from box to water in about 10 minutes, an article on designboom.com reports.

Oru chief designer and company co-founder, Anton Willis, explained that the new foldable kayak was “designed with families in mind. . . It’s stable enough to keep the kids safe and equipped with a universal rail platform to accommodate a variety of accessories.” The design can convert to a single-person kayak, as well.

The Haven is set up using a system of folding patterns (similar to origami) and color-coded marks. Compared to the Oru Beach model, it’s four feet longer and five inches wider but still fits in a “suitcase-sized pack,” Willis says.
