The Hohenstein Institute has announced that Macy’s will bring MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® labels to select private brand sheets and towels. Macy’s says that selecting the MADE IN GREEN label is a way to make the company’s sustainability initiatives visible to shoppers.

Because the label is traceable, customers can confirm the textile’s manufacturing origins via a unique ID. With a smartphones customers may scan the label’s QR code or enter the product ID on MadeInGreen.com to trace the product’s supply chain. Products carrying the MADE IN GREEN label have been tested for harmful substances according to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX. Environmental issues and the socially responsible nature of workplaces are evaluated by Sustainable Textile Production (STeP) by OEKO-TEX.

“Macy’s is committed to social responsibility and sustainability, and we know how important this priority is to our customers,” said Roberson Keffer, Macy’s Fashion Director, Home. The label will be applied to linen and towel lines available in stores and online beginning spring 2018.

The Hohenstein Institute is an independent and privately owned research and teaching centre for the textile and clothing industry and for commercial textile care companies.
