Apparel brands sign “We Are Still In”

Industry News | July 3, 2017 | By:

In support of the Paris Agreement on climate, some apparel brands, including Under Armour, Timberland, Nike, Levi’s, Gap and Adidas, have signed the “We Are Still In” pledge. The apparel companies are joined by about 1,400 businesses and investors, nine states, 275 colleges and universities, and 178 cities and counties.

Fashionating World reports that Nike has signaled its readiness to coordinate sustainability efforts with its home state of Oregon, one of the states signed on to the pledge. Nike, as well as the companies under the VF Corporation umbrella (including Vans), has pledged to use 100 percent renewable energy by 2025. By 2020, H&M plans to only use cotton from sustainable sources, and Gap hopes to do the same by 2021.

The article notes that coordination of the We Are Still In signatories’ goals to fight climate change is yet to be organized, but cites the pledge as a “massively important gesture.”
