Last year, systems manufacturer Oerlikon Barmag experienced a significant uptick in their industrial yarns projects — from melt to yarn production processes.
Oerlikon Barmag predicts continued growth, especially in the Asian and European markets, in polyester and polyamide yarns used in the automotive sector (airbags, safety belts, tire cord); a spectrum of geotextiles; and products for textile construction.
The company predicts a continued upward trend in polyester yarns used as a substitute for polyamide for use in airbags, for example, due to improved properties of polyester and lower raw material costs.
The company also cites the rising demand for high-performance tires resulting in increased demand for PET HMLS yarns as well as a greater output of PA66 yarns for use in cap ply. Systems for manufacturing yarns for PET and PA airbags, tires and safety belts are successfully operating in the automotive sector, as well as for upholstery and carpets, safety ropes and conveyor belts.
