The National Football League (NFL) has announced that a 3.1 million square-foot venue will be built in Inglewood, California. A 19-acre ETFE canopy shaped like a sail will top the complex, enabling year-round use for events.
Influenced by the Californian climate and culture, the sides of the building will remain open air, allowing natural air flow and promoting an indoor/ outdoor experience for guests and participants.
Dallas-based HKS architects will be responsible for the design and construction of the venue. The facility will mark the return of NFL football and the St. Louis Rams team to the greater Los Angeles area.
The 80,000-seat stadium will be able to accommodate major events such as collegiate games, awards shows and Super Bowl, but will also be able to adjust to smaller-scale events, including high school football games and motosports. The stadium will be one of the biggest and most expensive American football complexes to date.
