Sciessent awarded ECO PASSPORT for textile chemicals

EcoNote | June 10, 2016 | By:

The International OEKO-TEX® Association has awarded its ECO PASSPORT certification to Wakefield, Mass.-based Sciessent for its sustainable antimicrobial textile chemicals.

Sciessent is the first U.S. company to receive the new certification for its LAVA XL™ self-regenerating odor-control technology. The company was a participant in the six-month pilot test of the new ECO PASSPORT program.

The ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX analyzes textile chemicals, colorants and auxiliaries in a two-step process that confirms the compounds and individual ingredients meet specific criteria for sustainability, safety and regulatory compliance. The compounds also undergo laboratory evaluation to ensure they do not contain unsafe contaminants. Compounds that pass these two phases are granted the ECO PASSPORT certification indicating the certified textile chemical is safe to use in OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified textile products and in STeP by OEKO-TEX certified manufacturing facilities.

Founded in 1992, Zurich, Switzerland-based OEKO-TEX includes 16 independent textile research and testing institutes with representative offices in 60 countries worldwide.
