ThermalTech introduces solar-powered fabric

February 19th, 2016 / By: / What's New?

Yucatan, Mexico-based ThermalTech has introduced a solar-powered smart fabric made from stainless-steel yarn. The fabric is lightweight and gathers energy from the sun, artificial light and the wearer’s own body heat to keep the body warm even after the sun has set or on cloudy days. According to the company, the fabric’s technology generates up to 10°C/18°F of heat gathered from the sun or artificial light in just two minutes, even when it’s cold outside.

The fabric will first be used in a line of jackets for both men and women intended for use in a variety of outdoor activities from the everyday to extreme outdoor athletics. The jackets are breathable, waterproof, and have a slimmed-down look, compared to the often bulky winter wear.

The company has launched an Indiegogo crowd-sourcing campaign to bring its jackets to market.
