Freudenberg extends range of protection

Industry News | January 14, 2016 | By:

German technical-fabrics conglomerate Freudenberg Performance Materials announced it has extended the range and features of microfilament textiles made using its Evolon® technology for technical packaging.

Offering high-end protection in automotive applications, Freudenberg Performance Materials’ range of available weights and mechanical properties, special finishes and protective features now fulfills the requirements of other applications and industries. The microfilament textiles are used in the packaging and transport of highly sensitive parts, providing enhanced surface protection. Their durable, soft and smooth surface is anti-scratch, breathable and lint free, thus limiting damage to molded plastic, painted and highly complex parts.

In Freudenberg’s Evolon technology, bicomponent filaments are spun, then hydro-entangled using high-pressure water jets. They are then split to generate microfilaments which are 100 times thinner than a human hair. Unlike staple fibers, these filaments cannot release fibers or lints because they are virtually endless, and the extremely fine microfilaments avoid micro-scratches on sensitive parts.

In addition to automotive applications, Freudenberg´s microfilament textiles offer a high-performance solution for many other packaging applications such as consumer electronics, consumer appliances, custom countertops, aerospace products and lighting systems.
