Inflatable installation projects the night sky

The light and air pollution in large cities makes gazing at the stars virtually impossible; this awe-inspiring sight is available only to those who live in rural areas, or can escape to the wilderness. Until now.

London-based studio Loop.pH designed and constructed “Osmo,” a large silver sphere with the universe projected inside it. Inflated and placed underneath London’s high-traffic A13 flyover, the mirrored space allows visitors to relax “under the stars” and gaze at a physical re-creation of the infinite night sky.

Using laser beams bounced between layers of film, the experiential installation is designed to envelopes visitors with the beauty of the environment, as well as an ambient soundscape.

The project was commissioned by The Brick Box, an arts, events and projects consultancy firm in London. Loop.pH is a spatial laboratory experimenting across the fields of design, architecture and the sciences.
