Cooley Group Earns ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Standard Certification

Cooley Group, a manufacturer of high-performance, sustainable, engineered membranes, announces that it has earned ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Standard Certification from TUV SUD America, an internationally accredited firm for management system standards. The certification further solidifies Cooley’s commitment to develop sustainable products, reduce and recycle waste, and efficiently use its energy resources.

“Cooley continues to take a leadership role in initiating policies and practices that ensure the company conducts business as a global, corporate environmental citizen by complying with internationally recognized and accepted sustainability practices,” said David Pettey, Cooley Group chief operating officer.

Cooley also has implemented various sustainability initiatives, including its  G.R.E.E.N. program, developed to help employees engage with and influence its environmental and sustainability goals. The acronym stands for global stewardship, reduce and reuse resources, environmental compliance, eliminate waste, and no pollution. Its key objectives are to develop sustainable products; create zero landfill waste by recycling internal and external waste streams; and reduce water, gas, and electricity consumption rates.

The ISO certification comes as a result of the company’s history of applying sustainability principles in its manufacturing processes. At the end of last year, for example, Cooley had used almost 25 million pounds of recycled material (that would have otherwise ended up in landfills) to manufacture new products. It also reduced its gas energy consumption by 75 percent and its material waste generation during production by more than 70 percent.
