Glowing Man lights up the slopes

Photographer/director Jacob Sutton filmed pro snowboarder William Hughes over the course of three nights in the French Alps, doing what a snowboarder does, in a manner of speaking. But for the “Glowing Man” project, Hughes was outfitted in a custom LED-covered suit, created by designer John Spatcher. Flat Cat Productions, Gloucester, U.K., produced the suit.

Spatcher said that several concepts were tried before settling on actively illuminating the suit using LED strips powered by batteries. Suit fabrics needed a smooth, lint-free surface to ensure good adhesion for the LED strips.
