HYDRO_BOT manages moisture in clothing

What's New? | February 16, 2017 | By:

A research facility and industry team have created a product they call HYDRO_BOT, aimed at transporting moisture to match human sweat rates in various climates, conditions and activity levels. The electronically controlled moisture management technology will be applied to sports, work and protective clothing.

Osmotex, a Swiss-Norwegian startup, has been developing HYDRO_BOT for ten years. Over the last two, the company has applied its electro-osmosis moisture management expertise in collaboration with four strategic partners:

  • Swiss textile manufacturer Schoeller Textil AG is the production partner for the HYDRO_BOT panels.
  • Sportswear brand KJUS is the primary product development partner and will take HYDRO_BOT to market in selected skiwear products planned for the 2018–2019 season.
  • Wearable technology company Belginova is providing the operating systems and switches. The company will also sell HYDRO_BOT products through their brand 30SEVEN.
  • Empa, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, has conducted materials and technology research. Empa is involved in verifying durability, washability and performance of HYDRO_BOT under different conditions.

The partners envision HYDRO_BOT helping to create highly functional, intelligent textiles for skiers, golfers and workers who would benefit from controlling moisture for safety and comfort.
