At the start of 2016, the Zurich, Switzerland-based International OEKO-TEX Association published updated test criteria and limit values for product certification in accordance with OEKO-TEX Standard 100. The new regulations take effect April 1, 2016, for all certifications, following a three-month transition period.
Supplements or changes in the criteria catalog affect:
- Perfluorinated compounds, organotin compounds, softeners/phthalates, pesticides, chlorinated phenols, chlorinated benzenes and toluenes, colorants classified as carcinogenic and which are thus prohibited, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, alkylphenols and alkylphenol ethoxylates as well as flame-retardant substances
- A new test parameter “UV stabilisers” was also included in OEKO-TEX product class IV

OEKO-TEX will hold two webinars in German and English on Feb. 3, 2016, for textile producers, brands, retailers and others seeking more details about the changes. Participation in the webinars is free, and registrations will be accepted until Jan. 29.
Since its introduction in 1992, the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 has focused on the development of test criteria, limit values and test methods on a scientific basis. Extensive product checks after the certificate has been issued, as well as regular company audits, ensure that the industry has a globally sustainable awareness of the responsible use of chemicals.
