Teijin Frontier offers new polyester fabric

Teijin Frontier Co. Ltd., the Tokyo-based Teijin Group’s fiber-product converting company, says it has developed an all-polyester material that achieves the pile structure of toweling and offers water absorbency, a soft texture and a unique bulky-but-lightweight feel.

The company is developing a variety of applications for the new material, focusing on 2016 fall/winter sportswear, but also such functional clothing as underwear and uniforms, as well as bedding and industrial materials.

As opposed to fleece, the company says, the new material’s surface appearance, functionality and comfort remain durable after repeated washing. In addition, the fabric structure is applicable for multi-seasonal products, not just fall and winter clothing.

To achieve the toweling-like pile structure. Teijin Frontier combined technologies from its DELTAPEAK®, a material that incorporates unique yarn texturizing, knitting and dyeing techniques, and new textile technologies based on a false-twist yarn.
