Nano-silver as antimicrobial: Is it safe?

Industry News | June 1, 2012 | By:

The Hohenstein Institute is part of the E.U.-based public research project “UMSICHT” (circumspection), and is developing scientific data to measure the impacts of nano-silver technology.

Many unanswered questions exist concerning the behavior of nano-silver particles throughout the life cycle of in-market textiles treated with nano-silver, such as:

  • Do the physical properties of the particles effect efficacy and behavior?
  • Is there a difference in silver content and durability due to the type of textile application process and fiber utilized?
  • What happens to the nano-silver during normal consumer use?
  • What are the risks?

Hohenstein Institute is offering a free webinar to learn more about the status of the UMSICHT project as well as the results to-date for the final report due out in 2013.

The webinar will take place Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at noon EST

RSVP by Friday, June 22 to Dina Dunn for webinar log-in information.
